This Tower was originally a Norman Fortified House owned by the powerful De-Burgo family in the 13th and 14th centuries. In 1916 it was bought by W.B. Yeats and served as his summer home for 12 years and is the setting for his poems ‘The Winding Stair’ and ‘The Tower’. It is situated along a narrow lane off the main road between Galway City and Gort.
